The Nikon D90, Setting the Midlevel DSLR Standard
The Nikon D90 is a DSLR camera aimed on the market in between those that are looking for an entry-level camera and those that are looking for a professional level camera. This camera was released in August 2008 as the successor to the Nikon D80.
In more ways than one, the Nikon D90 is a leap forward from the D80 that it replaces. There are many firsts that the D90 has achieved. The most notable among its innovations is the ability to capture video. In fact, this is the first DSLR camera to have the ability to record videos. The videos that this camera is capable to create are rated at 720p HD, with mono sound and capturing 24 frames per second. It is so innovative that since its release, both Nikon and its rivals have made standard on most of their DSLR cameras the ability to record videos. In addition, the D90 is also the first Nikon camera to integrate a third firmware module, “L”, which improves the camera’s autoexposure functions. Another first would be the ability to support Global Positioning System (GPS)/.

Buy the newest DSLR or the old model?
It’s been a long while since Nikon announced anything before the D3100. So with the Nikon D90 finally being replaced, we are seeing something much more robust in the upcoming Nikon D7000. Nikon has tried to be much more careful with their product segmentations without treading on the toes of its other models unlike Canon. Having said that though, I am seeing a much more serious dilemma when choosing between a Nikon D7000 and a Nikon D300S then I would have between a Canon EOS 60D and a 7D. If you are wondering why then you should take a look to see how close the specs are and also where the D7000 proves to be somewhat more superior.
Nikon D7000 Specifications
16.2 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor
HD Movie, 1920×1080 (24fps), 1280×720 (30, 24, 25fps)
TTL exposure metering using 2,016-pixel RGB sensor
Continuous Burst Speed up to 6fps
Dual Memory Slots (2x SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards)
39 focus points AF (including 9 cross-type sensors)
ISO Sensitivity range: 100-6400 (Expandable to 25600)
D300S Specifications
12.3 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor
HD Movie, 1,280 x 720 (24 fps)
Continuous Burst Speed up to 7fps (8fps with MB-D10)
Dual Memory Slots (1x CF, 1x SD/SDHC Cards)
51 focus points AF (including 15 cross-type sensors)
ISO Sensitivity range: ISO 200 to 3200 (Expanded 100 to 6400)
Key Differences
The first thing most people would notice would be the obvious increase in the megapixels count on the sensor. While the increase from 12.3 to 16.2 may not please the crowd asking for 20+ megapixels but what is really worth taking notice of is the ISO range of the D7000. With the increased resolution, Nikon has obviously significantly improved their noise reduction to allow for an even higher ISO setting at ISO 25600 (2-stops more than the Nikon D300S).
The new 39-point AF system in the Nikon D7000 offers us something to look forward to from the 11-point AF previously in the D90. Sure, it’s not quite the 51-points AF system of the D300S but if it’s quick and accurate enough, you probably won’t need so many focus points anyway. More interesting but less clear (at least until we can do more tests) is the new metering system of the D7000. Using a 2,016 pixels sensor instead of the previous 1,005 pixels sensor, it should technically provide more information for more accurate metering. As far as burst speed though, the D300S still holds the trumps with up to 7fps (8fps with MB-D10) as opposed to the slower but still very faster (faster than Canon 60D, we may add) 6fps.
There is also the improved movie recording feature in the D7000. Now shooting Full HD at 1920×1080, the D7000 also benefits from the AF-F focusing mode which allows AF during the video mode. Both cameras are equally rugged with the lighter D7000 providing dual SD card slots as opposed to the CF and SD card slots on the D300S. While CF cards may be more important to some professionals, the convenience of SD/SDHC/SDXC cards is starting to win over many others. This is especially true with the faster and more durable high end cards in the market. Not everyone would agree though and more so if you have lots of expensive CF cards already.
Â
Why Buy Nikon D7000
- Lighter but still very rugged body
- Full HD movie with in video AF
- High ISO range
Â
Why Buy Nikon D300S
- Higher Continuous Burst Speed
- 51-point AF System but not enough to make a difference
- CF card shooting
Â
My choice? Just get the D7000 or if you are not in a hurry, wait for the D300S replacement which will no doubt put the D7000 to shame. Might have to wait until 2011 though…

Canon Eos 7D Or Nikon D300S – A Dslr Camera Review
It is really another Digital SLR shootout! Canon vs Nikon… just as before. This is an incredibly fascinating battle of Photography Equipment Producers.
This time the featured players are the Canon EOS 7D vs Nikon D300s.
The stakes are high as they battle each other to see who can win the most new consumers.
Photographers are lining up across the digital battlefield from each other to argue about technological features and camera jargon back and forth.
If you search photography message boards for the most current threads about these two middle of the road Digital SLR cameras, you will observe some rather interesting remarks. But once all is said and done, it looks like that there is really a winner.
Here are several of the challenges that have climbed to the top of the debate since the launch of two very similar, and, yes, amazing, pieces of photographic equipment.
Megapixel count -
Megapixel count appears to favor the Canon 7D at 18 megapixels vs 12 megapixels on the Nikon D300s. However, the sole mention of the matter (in this writer’s research) was from one person who pointed out that the greater resolution of 18 megapixels was an asset when recording images at a high zoom range. However, for the most part, it was a non-issue.

NIKON D3100 DSLR BODY
Nikon introduces the D3100, the most easy-to-use D-SLR from Nikon to date featuring full High Definition (HD) video. The D3100 is the latest entry-level Nikon DSLR in a line that dates back four years to the D40 and, in arguably the biggest upgrade yet, gains two key features: live view and movie recording. This is the ideal camera for families who want to capture all the important moments in perfect quality, without worrying about programme settings.” The Nikon D3100 bundle package comprises a compact and well-constructed body which offers a wonderful grip and feel. The guide mode is very good to help the user set the camera to any given situation. The autofocus 11 points is fast through the View Finder.
A number of its well-constructed attributes include things like complete HD film mode, in-camera RAW, movie modifying, red-eye removal, rapid autofocus program and optional GPS unit which all permit a photographer to capture what’s in their “minds eye” either in photographs or movies. The camera is acclaimed for either newcomers to DSLR cameras and professionals. It’s a good idea to invest in some decent memory cards including one or two spares. If you plan to shot a bit of video have a larger faster card dedicated to that use and use a smaller (4GB) card for straight digital photography.
Nikon D3100 Key Features:
- A new DX-format CMOS image sensor and image-processing engine, EXPEED 2, both developed by Nikon enable capture of high-definition images with superior image quality.
- A refined Guide mode that is even easier to use Guide mode.
- Live view mode that allows users to use the camera monitor to easily frame still image or movies.
- D-Movie for recording and editing full-HD movies and AF-F (full-time servo AF) focus mode for movie recording.
- Scene auto selector built in

Nikon D300s – How Does It Rate Against Other Digital SLRs
The Nikon D300s has been out for over a year now, and it continues to shine in the eyes of its users. You would be hard-pressed to find a camera that has better user reviews… Well, maybe the Nikon D700, but that is a cat of a different color, being a full-frame camera.
What makes this camera so special, and how does it stack up against the rest of the top rated cameras in its field?
To begin with, it is the users that make or break the camera. If a model starts out with a few bad reviews, the users will find fault. It’s kind of like football fans. You never heard of an Oregon Ducks fan outside the state of Oregon until this year, but now, being undefeated, the “fans” are everywhere. Fair weather exist in football and photography.
But this is not about football, it is about the excellence and desirability of the Nikon D300s. With respect to sensor size, it is a 12.3-megapixel APS-C sensor. This is good in that the engineers did not try to stuff too many pixels into a small space. It can compete very favorably with the 15mp to 18mp competitors because you really don’t need that many pixels unless you plan to print an image as big as your living room wall. 12-megapixels is plenty. It is the quality of those pixels that makes the difference, and the users agree that image quality “rocks” on this model.

Nikon D5000 DSLR – A great Alternative For Budding and Amateur Photographers
The Nikon D5000 would be the newest “entry-level” DSLR from photography large Nikon, generally regarded very best for two things: Producing unbelievable specialized stage cameras and lenses, and placing unusually substantial value tags on them. The D5000 arrives like a refreshing shock – a minimal priced complete featured DSLR constructed for budding and amateur photographers.
When 1 examines the Nikon D5000 it can be speedily obvious that in spite of only a $600 cost tag (physique only) and also the “entry level” labeling, this is definitely an amazing digital camera. Packed complete of sophisticated specialized features, some incredibly cutting edge, the only region exactly where the digital camera is missing is in its autofocus (ironic, as Nikon is usually accepted to become the leader within this facet of digital photography). There isn’t an AF motor within the digital camera entire body, so 1 has to decide on lenses that function explicitly with this model.
In addition to a complete DSLR aspect set for nonetheless photography, the D5000 also allows the photographer to shoot video clip in 780p HD, comprehensive with sound and all. It might be a DSLR, but as an “entry level” digital camera Nikon needed to construct while in the capability for even amateurs to run it. They complete this by like 19 distinctive pre-configured “scene modes”, which may be chosen by the photographer or automatically by the digital camera in order that it shoots together with the best settings for any of individuals situations.

Nikon D40 DSLR and 18-55mm Lens Review
The digital camera I have and I’m reviewing is Nikon D40. It’s a digital SLR camera. It uses any Nikon lens. It’s really lightweight compared to other digital SLR cameras. It’s so incredibly quick to use.
The lens it’s bundled with, the Nikon 18-55mm, is really a terrific lens for a beginner. It’s achievable to shoot anything from macro to portrait to nature pictures.
It starts from 200 ISO, which is an additional excellent feature. It has an extremely easy and effortless to use menu. Also it’s pretty straightforward to customize the menu according to your needs. It’s LCD screen is good. It’s massive, bright and clear.
It doesn’t have an integrated focus motor, which means that to do auto focus you’ll want to use a lens that has built in motor. It’s no dilemma considering most of the Nikon lenses have motors in them. The ones that do not have are decades old.
It’s terrific for macro, action, nature, portrait photography. Really as it’s achievable to use distinctive lenses, Nikon D40 is efficient for any type of photography–except sports. Professional sports photography requires high end cameras.
What I do not like about is that it does not have white balance and ISO buttons. So you might have to scroll the menus every time you have to change 1 of them. Also it does not have a screen on top like higher end models. It’s drawback due to the fact you’ve to rely on the principal screen which wastes battery.
Its viewfinder could have been far better. It has only 3 focus points which make it challenging to auto focus. All in all, it’s a spending budget SLR camera and it’s undoubtedly worth it.
Virtually anybody would be satisfied with the Nikon D40, regardless of whether they’re a beginner or professional.

I was recently told that I’d be surprised of how many Nikon folks are that Canon doesn’t have manual control over the popup flash. It has TTL flash exposure compensation but Nikon also let’s you set it to 1/4th power or 1/2 power for example.
I was just wondering if any Nikon dSLR users actually use this feature.
