I have a 15-year old Canon EOS Rebel X SLR Autofucus (AF) 35mm camera that I’ve had since 1992. It came with a 50mm AF Lens and Flash when I purchased it. The camera has served me well. It is still one of the ideal CANON EOS Rebels ever made because it is dummy proof. Since then I’ve also bought 28-90mm AF Macro Zoom Lens, 75-300mm AF Macro Zoom Lens, and a Olympus Stylus 300 digital zoom camera. But I admire the new modern digital zoom SLR cameras. I know a lot of the digital SLR cameras are very pricey.

Is it possible for me to understand focal length using a Point and Shoot camera? The 35mm equivalent doesn’t mean much to me (yet!). I have an Olympus Stylus 8.0.nnFeel free to answer my question now, or if you’d like to read my point view of it, please continue to read:nnFrom what I gather so far, when I zoom OUT all the way and shoot standing close the subject (so that it fills my screen) the objects in the background look really far away in the processed image. When I shoot zoomed IN all the way, and stand further away so that my subject fills the screen, the objects in the background appear closer in the processed image.nnAm I getting this? (I’m REALLY new to this, so I’m sorry if this is sounding like a stupid question…) I think what I’m more confused about is how I would use this, what looks superior in certain situations, etc.nnIf someone has some great insight to offer me, I would be forever grateful!nThanks!
